Come Thursday there will be Bison for sale at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
It happens once a year.
Go early and bring your cattle trailer, best bring a heavy duty one.
Register with the sales office and you can then go up ontop of the catwalks and take a look at the buffs for sale.
There are calves, and spikers, and cows and them big ole buffalo bulls for sale.
Be sure to take your camera.
If you have kids bring them along. Otherwise try not to step on any of the million school kids that come by bus.
Now this is a serious sale, but before it starts you can buy buffalo burgers and chow down.
Indians show up too and sometimes even the cavalry, Ft. Sill is nearby after all.
About noon, everybody sits down and the sale proceeds.
First they sell the calves, then the yearling spikers and then the cows and then...
The bulls. Everybody wants to see the bulls. Look down the lane . See the little "Bobcat" tractor with the enclosed cage? That's used to "herd" the biggest bulls.
Sometimes they do not respond well to the nudges.
Sometimes they are down right hostile. Sometimes the "bobcat" has trouble getting them out of sales area.
If you watch from the stands, then sit on your hands, Don't touch your hat, or scratch your nose, or wave to a friend. If you do you may be the owner of a 3,000 lb pet.
I may not make to the sale this year. It would be a shame to miss it.
Heck, sure I'll be there.

That was enough to send us out for
dinner down at the Mainstreet Grille. My usual Bison Cheddar Burger Deluxe. Lewis & Clark were on to something......
Very cool. I my self have been present for two or three of the sales, but it's been 10-plus year.
I like "prairie butter", but it is rarely available. There is a restaurant, The Fort, outside Denver that has it on the menu. But that's a pricey place.
Tell the Mainstreet Grille to send me, my 15% referral fee.
Oh yes, no that good looking guy in the leather jacket and Resistol is not me. It's my youngest son.
I forgot to consult with "She:She Who Must Be Obeyed" about today's schedual. "She" had another agenda. The Buffalo Sale will have to wait till next year.
