The Acorn Puzzle

Ever try to put a puzzle together without looking at the picture on the box? Better yet have you ever tried to put a puzzle together with the picture on the puzzle pieces face down? Doesn't sound like too much fun does it. Especially if the puzzle has a lot of parts.

So here is a box labeled, Acorn Puzzle, 1000 pieces. Unfortunately it doesn't have a photo on the box top, indeed, there isn't any clues on how the puzzle pieces should fit together. They are blank on both sides. No wait, some have words.

Let's see what do they say?

That seems to be all of the ones I can read. Others are erased or smeared. Some are covered in brown stuff that I don't want to touch. Most are just blank, sort of like they haven't been made yet. What could all of these random things assemble into? Anybody out there got a clue? Help!
