"House Concurrent Resolution 1047 passed the Oklahoma State Senate (April 22nd)...., which means we now get to vote on the official Oklahoma Rock ‘n’ Roll Song."
“This resolution truly promotes and celebrates the history and influence of music in Oklahoma,” said State Sen. John Ford, the senate sponsor of the bill who represents Craig, Nowata and Washington Counties. “What’s really exciting is that ...........""
Yep, there a house resoultion and a contest and now it is down to the final ten nominees:
All-American Rejects - Move Along
The Call - Oklahoma
The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize
JJ Cale - After Midnight
John Moreland & the Black Gold Band - Endless Oklahoma Sky
Leon Russell - Home Sweet Oklahoma
Mae Axton - Heartbreak Hotel
Three Dog Night - Never Been to Spain
The Ventures - Walk, Don't Run
Wanda Jackson - Let's Have a Party
As far as I can tell on the last four are actual Rock and Roll, but what do I know.
So listen to the songs and vote at the web site.
If you want to vote on this do so soon at:
http://www.oklahomarocksong.org/form/vote.php
Now as for me, I voted for Wanda Jackson, The Queen of Rock-a-Billy, but I'll be happy with Three Dog Night, or The Ventures, or Mae Axton.
The Flaming Lips are great, but they are not Rock n' Roll.
So, who's your pick?
Here's the total list of "nominees":
A lot of talent seems to be "from" Oklahoma.

Never B een to Spain! Three Dog Night! Written by Okie Hoyt Axton!
Yeah, I had to vote for Hoyt's song. Went to high school with his niece and nephew, after all. But I'd be perfectly fine with either Wanda Jackson or the Ventures, too.
It's too bad that they don't require that the song both be about (or at least mention) Oklahoma & actually have some real connection to Oklahoma (like the writer or band or a band member, etc.) be actually connected to the band ... seems like that might actually eliminate 95% of all of the listed songs ...
I think Never Been to Spain is the most famous of the nominees ... seems like quite a few of the songs are actually country or folk songs ... someone nominated all of the all american reject songs even though none of them have anything to do with Oklahoma, so even though I like the band, I would disqualify all of them ... I love Woody Guthrie, but that's not rock-n-roll ...
Do you have any thoughts on the matter lobojo? Perhaps you could narrow down the list for us to those songs which actually meet these requirements?
Peace,
Beth
OK. So now I understand why "Walk Don't Run", is on the list. One original and one later member being Okies. I think, though, I'm inclined to vote for Hoyt's mom and "Heartbreak Hotel".
The rules state that the song should be written by or performed by an Oklahoman.
What is "Rock 'n' Roll" is a committee decision (remember the camel?).
