  1. What's the story behind that "Church sale find"? Looks
    either old or orthodox source...

  2. The last one could also be called "Still Life With Cat".

    Great photos.

  3. Church sale find. When I bought that for 25 cents I though it was some sort of paper laminated to old particle board. Boy was I wrong. At home, I realized it was an old piece of wood absolutely riddled with worm holes. The surface was a painting on a gessoed or plastered surface, using gold leaf in places.
It is very old, and appears to be part of a Greek/Coptic Icon. Went back to the church. No one knew where it came from, who donated it, or why it cost only 25 cents.
I've scanned it and flipped the image to create a full icon of sorts.
Can't find anyone who can tell me exactly what it is.

  4. Looks like you got your quarter's worth with the Church sale find. I
copied and expanded your photo to
    elucidate the wording which appears
left center, but it was too faded to make out. Looks rather Greek, which is odd, for the figure is holding a Russian Orthodox cross.
It is quite interesting, and looks
like it may have been part of an
old book or bible cover? Have you tried contacting a Russian orthodox blogger?
