Labor Is Not The Same As Work Nor Wealth The Same As Capital

Readin' , Riten', n' Rithmatic.

Once again I tread in waters I’m not sure of.  I am not a public school teacher, administrator, or board member.  I know practically nothing about public schools.  There, that is my disclaimer.
I do know this.  High School graduates certified to be prepared to do college level work aren’t.   That’s right.  I am saying that a great many high school students who have been certified by those schools as being ready for college are not prepared to read or write at the college level nor are they able to do college level math.
They can pass standardized high school level tests.  This is good because it appears this is one of the determining factors for funding and teacher raises/job security.   However one cannot say that the student is good at passing all test because they cannot score well enough on college level assessment exams to get into college level work.
I am willing to go along with the fact that almost all schools now have to teach to some standardized exam.  But are we really willing to blame standardized tests for all of our woes?  I watched my own child progress through the grades and I watch kids now.  These kids are in band, honor societies, sports, choir, and any number of extracurricular activities.  If they have enough time they are in school.
It is finals week for our local school system.  The kids only have to attend about a half a day.  Most of them seem to be "exempt" from their final exams.  Which seems to have more to do with attendance than performance.  And attending half a day is really false, they need to be at school by 10:00 and stay for 15 minutes so the school can count them for funding.  A whole week of school wasted in my opinion.
I don’t understand the modern education system.  It is nothing like when we went to school.  However it is considered an advancement.   Yet we came out of high school ready to go to college or to work, provided the military didn’t grab us first. If we went to college and didn’t make the grade we were booted and had to go to work, if the military didn’t grab us first.  There was no remedial system that we could partake of for a couple of years before starting college level work.
Teaching to the test is one more government initiative that is not working.  Yet we will continue to do it because the handful of people who do vote are voting for representation that approves of this kind of education.
So you just continue to stay home and watch Dancing With the Stars or The Bachelor and don’t bother to read op ed pieces, watch news shows, go listen to the folks running for office or God forbid, head to the ballot box.  Your vote doesn’t matter anyway.

Giddy Up Rudolf...It Is Time To Round Up The Reindeer

It is too damn cold around the arctic circle of villages and peoples.  So few academics have endeavored to emerge themselves into the search for artifacts and settlements of any age.  Indeed would there be such.  Igloos melt, skin boats rot or are eaten, wood & bone are reused and remade and left to the elements simply return to the earth.  but the circle of Arctic peoples did not come into existence recently.

10,000 years ago they lived on the edge of the ice as well but it was much further South because the continental glaciers had yet to fully melt. 10,000 years ago they probably had the first domesticate herd animal, the Reindeer.  Not hard to imagine a cute little reindeer being adopted by a child and from there the symbiotic affiliation of reindeer and man was born,

It was the same with wolves.  Puppies to symbiosis and dogs.  Wolves are not domesticated, they had to become dogs first.  Think about that statement.  It is ludicrous. Wolves associate with man a long time before they were dogs. As they do with at least one Arctic tribe today.

What you are looking at is a living tribal structure who has lived off their deer herds for thousands of years.  Man didn't become civilized at the edge of the desert alone, the edge of the ice worked the magic as well.

Some Geographers and others believe the reindeer are the first animal to be ridden by man.

Many burials in the Asian plains have horses buried with them. The horses had head gear with reindeer antlers attached as though they were making their animal look like a more preferred but unavailable mount.

Modern man simply does not get it, when it comes to men and animal, especially those who have had hundreds of generations side by side.

Some we herded, and they gave us everything we needed.  Some we hunted with, the wolves and the eagles, and shared the kills.  In some we found great spiritual wealth.

These picture come from one tribes left over from the ice age.

The Oklahoma Abode

Next Year my home will be 100 years old.  Oklahoma City says it was built in 1923, but that was the year the land it was on was plated for the city.  It is a good home.  Use to have a stable out back. Found a collection  of old horse shoes and rusted hoof knife with a bone handle there.

Raise a passel of kids here.  Three of mine and a couple or three that just showed up.  No we are getting down the road a mite and are preparing for mobility for now and later.

One my favorite places in the house is my stairs to the second story.  They may be the steepest of stairs just before you have to classify them as a ladder.

It is full of books and stuff in a series of shelves and nooks built on one side.  I've got some Doctor Who displays in shadow boxes here as well as other things

I house my beer shadow boxes here as well as the others.  Some beers just beg to be displayed.

It is also the way station for items headed upstairs.  I try to be frugal these days in the number of trips up and down that I make.  So I pile stuff up to take as I go.

I have to confess as to the.....eclectic....make up of this here.  Some things, most thing are not...serious.

These are progenitors Bertha and Hubert. First where they lived during the first year of marriage as dad work two shift as foreman to a road build crew in Texas. the other is 40 years latter.

peyote rattle...a part of a ceremonial bis skull.... some Taos pottery....an old Wilbur Chocolate Company candy holder shaped like a RR lantern,,..and coke cans.....and a pottery oil lamp from Jordan.

Prominent stuff here emu eggs...large sand dollar....mother-in-law as a young woman...and a blue on white plate from the 1903 Lewis and Clark Exposition in San Francisco.

Just junk here

Top of the stairs there is a 15 star flag....two clay pipe collections and my wife topless  in a swing

Now these are from my Limbo room where I spend lots of time.

Some of my old abode.  Some of the parts I like best. More later maybe.
