How much Does A President Cost These Days?

George W. Bush graced Oklahoma City with his presence Friday. He pretended to be coming to talk with small business men about Health Saving Accounts, but didn't really. That gave him legal cover to do a Tax Payer funded trip to raise money for Republican (I call them re-Publicans) candidates. Our Senator Inhoff needs money now for example to stave off a real challenge by a Democrat.

News OK . Com ( a small picture for a small event)

So how much does a President of the United States cost? I mean technically he does work "for us", doesn't he? So why should he slip into the city unseen except by those willing to pay and by some props ("regular" people and little kids) selected to meet and greet and photo op with him as he left a secure military airport? Well heck folks the man is still a rePublican and will retire soon, so he has to build up goodwill with his party and his retirement credits. Naw, he doesn't get to keep any of this money. His rewards come later, clean and laundered. Oh yes, other President have done the same thing, but none so well (Well, maybe Bill).

So, if you wanted to eat a plate of food with him, that cost $1000 and an invitation which might, just might, have cost even some more. To have your picture taken with him , well that was $500 (not counting the frame). To get some face time, some one on one access, well that cost $25,000.

Now just how is this not selling access and/or influence? Of course it is legal, the President of the United States is not going to participant in any illegal activity. But doesn't it smack of the Middle Eastern or Asian behavior?

You know like bribing the Mandarin in order to get to the Emperor. Isn't this behavior more, say, Saudi Arabian than American?

Reports are that there are 4000 Hurricane evacuees at the OKC Emergency Shelter at Reno and Council. They were there yesterday when George W. the POTUS was in the city. Wonder why he did not go by and check on them and give them some hope and warm fuzzies? Based on how much he cost these days, I guess I shouldn't wonder, they just could not afford him.
But then who can?

So how much would you pay?

Remember Oklahoma elected and re-elected Jim Inhofe as Senator, a man who believes that The Weather Channel has created "Global Warming" to improve their ratings.
So, yep, he got a $$$$ turnout. We will back illogical, dumb ass, losers and brag about it. Kind of like Alaska.

With all deference to your fair state, how is it possible they twice elected someone as dumb as Inhofe? Seriously, are there that many really dumb people in OK?

I lived in VA when Ollie North was running against Chuck Robb. Robb was no prize, all he had going for him was being married to LBJ's daughter (and he got nailed for cheating on her), but even VA refused to Send Ollie North to the US Senate. Considering that was in 1994, a banner year for Republicans, I call that a major victory.

Well, I have pondered on that difugalty my own self.

The serious geopolitical answer is that the power structure in Oklahoma is split 40/60 between rural/urban and the urban is split 50/50 between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Neither City can control the State unless they obtain the support of rural Oklahoma. Population wise the most rural voters live in Little Dixie, or SE Oklahoma. Tulsa is better at forming an alliance with them than Oklahoma City is. Inhofe is from Tulsa. In fact he used to be the Mayor of Tulsa, and is a wholly owned subsidiary that local power structure. As for the mental accomplishment of Little Dixie, I once heard a Superintendent of Schools from that area of the State say that we didn't need to require Algebra to go to College because no-one in his town ever used it anyway.

I'll be Dang if a candidate for the Presidency doesn't cost more than a sitting President. People paid $28,500 to eat meet and great and get a picture with Obama at a get together thrown by Babs Streisand. Wow, so much for Populism.
